Report from EuroSense 2022

E3S Eurosense Student Award – Victoria Norton

I would like to thank the European Sensory Society (E3S) for kindly awarding me one of the E3S EuroSense Student Awards and giving me the opportunity to attend EuroSense 2022. It was my first time attending an in-person EuroSense, so it was great to finally get the full experience. It was also my first time visiting Finland, which was exciting, and thank you for making us feel so welcome and making EuroSense such an enjoyable experience. I liked the range of keynotes, workshops, presentations, and posters; it was good to be able to put names to faces, meet new people, and catch up with friends/colleagues.

This year’s EuroSense theme was ‘A Sense of Earth’ and I enjoyed seeing such a variety of topics in this area across the different parallel sessions. I was particularly interested by Sensory, FoodTech and Health, Sensory and Consumer Science for Sustainability and Multisensory Perception.

It was fantastic to see three Early Career Researcher seminars and that is something I hope can continue at future EuroSenses. I would like to thank the E3S Next Generation Group for organising the seminars and it was a privilege to be able to chair one of the sessions alongside Hannah Ford. I was also grateful to be given the opportunity to present some of my PhD findings on ‘Individual variation in mouthfeel sensitivity: investigating influences of whey protein content, consumer age, food format and fat addition’ and it was exciting to be back presenting in person.

I am looking forward to attending (and hopefully presenting at) many more EuroSenses in the coming years.

Thank you again

Victoria Norton
