POST OF THE MONTH: Editorial Letter 2023

Dear members and sensory enthusiasts,

Can you believe it? 2023 has flashed by in the blink of an eye, and what a ride it's been for our Next-Generation group! As the year comes to a close, let's take a moment to reflect on the fantastic journey we've had together.

We've been consistently sharing posts each month, not just to boost the visibility of our members, but also to peek into the fascinating projects everyone is diving into. From exploring how gamified smell training can make fruits and veggies more appealing, to unraveling the mysteries behind flavour and texture perception of meat alternatives, and delving into the individual food preferences of cancer patients — our monthly highlights span a wide range of captivating topics our members are actively involved in.

In May, we hosted an engaging workshop during the 11th E3S Annual Symposium in Uppsala, Sweden. Speakers from different parts of the globe shed their insights on cultural differences within the realm of sensory and consumer science. And then came Pangborn — for many of us, the first in-person Pangborn, leaving a lasting impression! Our social lunch also provided the perfect setting to connect with members of the group.

With a bittersweet feeling we said goodbye to our committee member Hannah Ford, who is now conducting research on consumer perceptions and choice behaviour towards meat in Australia! However, we are excited to welcome our new member to our committee, Viola Cereda, who is taking charge of the PhD European map – welcome aboard!

Reflecting on this remarkable year, we are always looking for ways to connect with our community, enhance the visibility and network of early career researchers, and organise events tailored to their interests and advantages. Additionally, we are actively updating our member database and country representatives to expand the reach of our announcements and activities.

A huge thank you to each one of you for being an integral part of this group. A special shout-out to the members of the E3S board for their support and guidance and a heartfelt appreciation goes to Ejona for her dedicated efforts in maintaining the website and handling all the requests we throw her way.

We're preparing for 2024 with activities to strengthen our bonds, expand our network, and make lasting memories. Looking forward to our participation in EUROSENSE 2024, engaging virtual drinks sessions, post of the month series, webinar series, and our involvement in the E3S Annual Symposium. After all, we are the Next-Generation group of the European Sensory Society, and the best is yet to come!
Cheers to an amazing year, and here's to an even more SENSational 2024!
