Sensory Specialist Job Specification

Job Title: Sensory Specialist

Reports to: Sensory Manager

Contract: Permanent

Based: Little Island, Cork, Republic of Ireland

Job Purpose

To provide sensory expertise to an International Beverage Company, which involves managing the international quality monitoring program, whilst also leading Descriptive Analysis and Consumer Projects.

Key Responsibilities

The role of the Sensory Specialist is to:

• Manage the Degree of Difference program

  • Work with the team to effectively manage sample volumes, schedule and run the testing sessions
  • Work with sensory technician to ensure all her responsibilities and tasks are clearly laid out
  • Monitor panel performance, feedback and training of panellists
  • Interact with customers on all queries related to the area of testing.
  • Analyse data and trend sensory results produced in the Lab as well as in Bottling plants.
  • Work with team to collaborate with Business Units in troubleshooting sensory issues that may arise at Bottling Plants and participate in the investigation of these issues
  • Manage the proficiency program between labs across International
  • Run monthly reports and data analysis on key indicators of Quality for the sensory lab
  • Recruitment of new panellists as needed

• Lead Descriptive Analysis Projects

  • Work on troubleshooting projects to answer customer requests using Descriptive methods
  • Monitor panel performance, feedback and training of panellists
  • Develop new methods/programs using the descriptive panel to ensure business needs are met

• Support Consumer Programs across International

• Work directly with Sensory Manager to organize documentation and processes in the sensory lab in compliance with Lab Quality System

Requirements

• Degree/Diploma in Sensory or Consumer Science

• Sensory experience an advantage

• Knowledge of descriptive analysis (Spectrum, QDA, etc.) methodologies.

• Experience with statistical analysis using SPSS, XL-Stat or Unscrambler plus knowledge of data collection software including FIZZ.

• Knowledge of difference testing and consumer product testing would be beneficial.

• Strong computer skills (Word, Excel. Power point), writing, presentation and communication skills

• Good project management skills (knowledge of project management tools is a plus)

• Good organizational, time-management and teamwork skills.

• Self starter, proactive in delivering results and a good organiser.
